Weaving Then and Now: The Prince George Spinners’ & Weavers’ Guild is dedicated to preserving and sharing the knowledge and practice of creating textiles. In celebration of Canada’s 125th birthday, we decided to display both heirloom and contemporary textiles. The majority of guild members make clothing and household textiles for themselves and their families. They do not make these fabrics from need, but because they enjoy working with fibres and expressing their creativity through unique textiles.

Prince George Potters’ Guild: The goals of this show are to encourage all members of the Prince George Potters’ Guild from beginners to advanced (1) to share and promote ceramics among themselves and the community (2) to provide that “first step” towards other opportunities, i.e. invitational shows, like the Regional Juried Art Show, or retail outlets, and (3) to build a personal resume. From a Guild perspective, this show will help to raise standards within our group and encourage artists to reach beyond themselves in discovering and trying new methods. From a broader perspective, the Local Design Art Showcase will draw attention to the interaction of the Art Gallery and Guilds by publicly showing the diversity of various art forms. Our Guild, formed in 1975, is dedicated to the promotion of communication and cooperation among those interested in the ceramic arts; providing artistic and educational opportunities within the guild and the community; and promotion of members’ work through sales, exhibitions, and demonstrations.

Prince George Quilters’ Guild: The Guild was formed in 1984, bringing together craftspeople that enjoy the art of quilting. Over the last eight years, we have completed many projects which have reflected the talents of the members. Our first project was hanging, donated to the City of Prince George for our 70th birthday. It is hanging in the museum. We have produced quilts for raffles, and donations to the Animal Shelter and the Child Development Centre. We have also produced a design, and made a banner for the summer games, which is hanging in the library. Our guild banner is a wall hanging example of a travelling quilt. It was designed as it went along and each member added to it. We have also put together wall hangings for the Senior Citizens Complexes, the Chemo Ward and the Dialysis Ward at the hospital. Our latest group project is the “tree quilt,” with each block depicting a different tree pattern to reflect the ecology and the resources in this area.
