The inaugural exhibition in the new Two Rivers Gallery will be an extravaganza of historical Canadian and European art, along with contemporary local, regional and BC pieces. Over a year in the making, guest curator, Dr. Maija Bismanis has created a very special opening exhibition with two components: works by the Group of Seven and Emily Carr (on a long-term loan to the gallery from a private collection) are exhibited along with contemporary works by artists of BC’s central interior. These artists chose to examine one of the historical pieces and create their own work which “engages” with the artwork. By exploring the potential of historical, contemporary, local, regional, provincial, national and international artwork this special show will give visitors a preview of future exhibitions at the gallery. Our thanks goes to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria for loaning us the historical European paintings for this exhibition.
This exhibition featured artwork by: Angela Carlson, Rob Dyson, Ken Ferris, Maureen Faulkner, Annerose Georgeson, Peter George, Ruth Hansen, Peggy Hubley, Joan Jamieson, Trevor Jones, Betty Kovacic, Claire Kujundzic, Marc Lacaille, Marie Nagel, Barbara Olsen, Peter Regush, Paula Scott, Colleen Stewart, Jean Weller and David Whittaker.
