Featuring work by three women artists from across the country, Figment explores the construction of fictional realities in the work of Alison Norlen, Minh Nguyen and Tania Kitchell. Huge drawings by Alison Norlen explore rural Canadian life through vignettes representing trade shows, agricultural fairs and expositions that she unites using the structures of theme parks and floats. Kitchell’s photographs and soft sculptures explore responses to weather and propose improbable scenarios and solutions to winter living. Nguyen’s mixed media drawings focus on dead insects that she brings to life with sensitive drawings that radiate with vitality.
