Recently moves were made in Spain, France, Great Britain and elsewhere to replace traditionally thin fashion models with those who were considered to have a healthy Body Mass Index. Many believe that images of ultra-thin models in popular media have had an impact upon body image and self esteem particularly in adolescent girls and young women, leading to serious health issues.
This exhibition focuses on representations of precisely this demographic. At times humorous, at other times disturbing this exhibition explores the experience of growing up female, while surveying representations of young women in the work of contemporary BC artists.
