Mario Doucette from Moncton, New Brunswick, combines both painting and drawing to create almost childlike images of historic incidents. Inventing historic events including a First Nation's invasion of Europe and by adding absurd elements such as superheroes to his work Doucette seeks to question what we know as history and the perspective from which it is written, particularly regarding the Acadian Expulsion from the Maritimes in 1755. Doucette is a finalist for this year’s Sobey Art Award which is Canada's pre-eminent prize for young Canadian artists.
