Artist’s Statement for “The Book Reader”:
“The importance of literacy was not lost on me when learning English as a second language. I became a voracios reader of everything from poetry to historical fiction, my favorite. Lately, when I read items on social media, I can’t help but notice the attrocious grammar, unbelievable spelling mistakes – in spite of spell check – and a general deterioration of the written word. In public places everyone is hunched over their devices and never a book in sight. So my plaintive cry is “Literacy, where are you going?”
