Cleave

Rustad Galleria – November 25th, 2021 to January 9th, 2022

Cat Sharp

Cat Sharp is a mixed media artist whose recent project, Cleave, embodies themes of connection and identity. Sharp explores her Denésułiné heritage through incorporating culturally significant imagery into collage-like works on paper, along with materials like leather and fur processed by family members. Through assemblages of twisted branches that are physically taken apart and put back together, Sharp make reference to a brain injury she suffered in 2011. Using thread, strung between these artworks and across the exhibition space, Sharp physically draws connections between aspects of her identity, creating a compelling installation centered around self reflection.

This project has been developed with the support of First Peoples Cultural Council.

Featured artwork: Birchbark and Blue, 2020. Ink, birch bark, acrylic, thread on paper.
